Windows will show a warning

That is expected. A code-signing certificate costs several hundred euros a year and we have not bought one yet. Windows is not saying the file is dangerous — it is saying it has not seen it before.

1. Click “More info”.
2. Then “Run anyway”.

If Windows says “Smart App Control”

That is a different warning: it has no “Run anyway” button. It only accepts software that is signed or already known to Microsoft, and ours is not signed yet. To install, you have to switch it off for the duration of the install.

1. Settings → Privacy & security → Windows Security → App & browser control.
2. Open “Smart App Control settings”, set it to Off, install Diktun, then switch it back on.

Check that Windows is up to date first. On builds older than March 2026, this setting cannot be switched back on without reinstalling the system.
